The National Initiative for the Agricultural Development (NIAD) announced receiving 250,000 mangrove seeds, 15,000 ghaf seeds, and 20,000 mangrove and ghaf tree seedlings from the Ministry of Climate Change in the United Arab Emirates and the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi.
The announcement came during the participation of the UAE embassy in planting Ghaf seedlings at the National Charter Monument as part of the Forever Green campaign. UAE Deputy Ambassador Mansoor Al Juwaid, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, NIAD Secretary-General Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa,
Southern Municipality Director-General Shaikh Hamad bin Isa bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Ministry of Oil and Environment Acting Undersecretary Faihan Al-Faihani and senior officials and experts attended the ceremony.
Al-Juwaid said the 10,000 mangrove seedlings were from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, 15,000 Ghaf seeds and 10,000 Ghaf seedlings from Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.
The minister stressed the importance of expanding tree planting and combating climate change in light of the plans and programmes developed by the government to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
