the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture planted 2,000 mangrove saplings along the western coast of Aker, as part of the Bahrain Mangrove initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and supported by Zain Bahrain.
The event was attended by Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture; Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of NIAD; MP Mohsen Al Asbool; Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry Ministry; Asim Abdullatif, Undersecretary of Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs; Mohammed Zainalabedin, General Manager at Zain Bahrain; and Saleh Tarada, Chairman of the Capital Municipality Council.
The minister highlighted the Bahrain Mangrove initiative as a reflection of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman’s leadership in supporting mangrove planting efforts in Bahrain. He noted that the initiative aligns with national plans to quadruple mangrove coverage by 2035, emphasising Bahrain’s commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and biodiversity conservation. The minister also commended the collaboration between public and private sectors in achieving these goals.
The minister noted the initiative’s role in raising awareness about mangrove planting, enhancing community participation, and supporting Bahrain’s National Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, in line with the Kingdom’s climate commitments.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa emphasised the importance of the initiative in advancing environmental sustainability goals. She expressed appreciation for the collaboration between NIAD and the ministry, as well as Zain Bahrain’s support. She looked forward to similar future projects, highlighting Bahrain’s strategic efforts to expand mangrove coverage to mitigate carbon emissions and meet international climate and sustainability commitments.
MP Mohsen Al Asbool commended the initiative for highlighting the environmental benefits of mangroves and fostering community partnerships to achieve ecological objectives.
Abdullatif underscored the significance of the initiative in enhancing mangrove plantation efforts and the value of partnerships with NIAD and private organisations in advancing this national project.
Zainalabedin emphasised the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and support for mangrove planting as part of its broader sustainability strategy to promote a greener future.
This initiative, part of the fourth phase of the “Forever Green” campaign, aligns with Bahrain’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, enhance green spaces, and advance sustainable development goals.
