The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), in partnership with the Ministry of Municipalities’ Affairs and Agriculture and the Supreme Council for the Environment, announced that 1,194 seedlings will be planted along the 16 December Avenue in the Southern Governorate, as a continuation of the previous stages of afforestation of the entire avenue.
The planting of the seedlings is the third initiative supported by SICO Bank, which had initiated the idea of financing afforestation projects in cooperation with NIAD and the Ministry of Municipalities’ Affairs and Agriculture, resulting in the crystallisation of the idea of the ‘Forever Green’ campaign in cooperation with the private sector.
The planting site was inaugurated in the presence of NIAD Secretary-General, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, the Director-General of the Southern Area Municipality, Asim bin Abdullatif, Municipal Council Chairman, Abdulla Abdulltif, Head of Corporate Communications at SICO Nadeen Oweis, and a number of agricultural sector officials.
The trees were selected in cooperation with the specialists of the Southern Area Municipality, which made every effort to determine the appropriate species for the region, taking into account the appropriate distances between them when planting to enable them to grow comfortably.
