The afforestation initiative of the East Sitra City Housing Project has launched in the presence of Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD).
Minister Al Romaihi emphasised the ministry’s commitment to increasing green spaces in residential cities in all its projects, in line with the Kingdom’s plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
She also said the ministry’s efforts in this regard are also aligned with the 11th Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which is to “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.
Minister Al Romaihi thanked Shaikha Maram bint Isa and all those involved in implementing afforestation initiatives.
She said that NIAD’s initiatives run in parallel with the Kingdom’s strategies to increase green spaces through coordination between the public and private sectors to implement afforestation projects and sustain the development of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom.
Minister Al Romaihi said that the afforestation initiative for the city of East Sitra is the second cooperation with NIAD, after the launch of the afforestation initiative for the city of East Hidd.
She lauded the support and active participation of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company to support afforestation efforts in various governorates of the Kingdom, including residential cities, noting that this support embodies the cooperation between the government and private sectors to achieve the Kingdom’s goals in this area.
For her part, Shaikha Maram bint Isa praised the efforts of the ministry through its support of afforestation of housing projects to increase green spaces, which will contribute to mitigating high temperatures.
She thanked the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company for their supporting NIAD.
